It was released today to all of us that Memphis musician Jay Reatard (aka Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr.) through his former label, Goner Records, that he died in his sleep.
Although more know for his explosive live performances… since 1998, Jay Reatard has been pumping out some great American garage punk from his work with bands like The Reatards, Lost Sounds, Nervous Patterns, The Final Solutions, Digital Leather, Angry Angles, Terror Visions, Bad Times…. and more notable solo releases Blood Visions (In The Red – 2006) and his latest release Watch Me Fall (Matador Records – 2009).
Having worked with Jay over the years… I think the fine people over at Matador says it best… “”We are devastated by the death of Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., a.k.a. Jay Reatard. Jay was as full of life as anyone we’ve ever met, and responsible for so many memorable moments as a person and artist. We’re honored to have known and worked with him, and we will miss him terribly.”
Here is a video documentary on Jay Reatard to give you a little more info from his myspace page:
