Alela & Alina is a beautiful EP that starts off with an original, “Amidst the Movement.” Right off we hear how lovely Alela and Alina’s voices blend and wind around together in melodic beauty that is rarely heard outside of folk music. Through the rest of the EP, three original tracks and a cover and two traditional folk songs, Alela forgoes the full band she is normally heard with and bares down to minimal acoustic guitars. My favorite is “Matty Groves.”
This is definitely a folk album, through and through and it’s not the kind of music you play at a party – unless you throw really lame parties – but it’s an album you’ll put on when you’re trying to hide the bitter cold weathefr that is coming for us very soon.
