Amateur Lovers by Brighton, MA

The highlight of my summer was supposed to be Bishop Allen, but it turned out to be showing up early and catching Brighton, MA. It was one of those moments we’ve all had. You hear faint music up ahead and it draws you in. You remain until the last note of the last song and somewhere in between you‘ve fall in love.
I fell in love all over again when I got the promo for Brighton MA’s upcoming release, Amateur Lovers. The album reminds me of an autumn day, crackling along reds and oranges, walking nowhere in particular with headphones on…
I find it hard to describe albums I love – albums I hate, I can write a five page review about – but albums that make my heart jump and my head swirl, I seem to lose words for. How do you describe the one song that makes you smile or that one song that’s so incredibly touching you almost and sometimes do cry? How do you describe a voice that hits your ears so pleasantly? How do you describe music with guitars that swirl in and out of each hitting the right chords and the right notes at the right time? How do you describe an album that will eventually become part of the soundtrack to your life?
I guess I just did.
But if you still don’t get it, our DJ, John Bowles put it best: “It’s good songwriting. The guy is just a great songwriter, you know?”
(my favorite tracks are “Sunblinded,” “Eskimo,” and “The Flood.”)
