Mannequin Men s/t  – Addenda Records

For my birthday I got a record spree at one of my favorite record stores. I pulled out the Mannequin Men record from the shelf and contemplated it. I knew I had heard of them, wasn’t sure where or how, but something told me I had heard good things. So on a whim (and enticed by the awesome cover art) I got the album.

Good thing right?

Mannequin Men’s album was released in November of 2011 and I feel like I’ve wasted three months that could have been spent listening to this album. It’s a great album from start to finish, no need to skip any tracks (well, on vinyl it’s not as easy to anyhow.) It’s rock ‘n roll when… well… it’s was fucking rock. Reminiscent of old 60′s garage bands and The Replacements, Mannequin Men reminds us of our roots.

Mannequin Men shine on garage-y on tracks like “Don’t Grow” and “Wake Up Dead” (which by the way, will actually knock you off your ass) and then are able to turn it down a little and yet  not lose themselves in tracks like “Why Do I Get.” My favorite though, is the catchy “Flyin’ Blind” – the chorus is so infectious you’ll be singing it all day long. I even have daydreams of them playing this song have an Almost Famous moment. But I’m a geek, so there’s that.

Final words? Pick up the album immediately. No seriously, it’s one of the best albums I’ve heard in a long time and if I were the type to make best of lists, I’d change my 2011 list instantly.

Magic Milk is one of the most kick ass party rockin’ bands in Chicago busting out some killer Minimalist Garage Rockin’, almost punk at times, tunes around. On October 20, 2011 I went out to see an indie rock band perform at the Beat Kitchen that had created a bit of a buzz here in Chicago by the name of On Again Off Again. Since that show, On Again Off Again has talked about a new release coming out in 2012, and after asking some of the long-time fans in the crowd about the band, I found out about an interesting connection with  On Again Off Again and Amanda of the Chicago indie band The Like Young. Of course this perked my attention and I needed to know more… so,  I scheduled an interview immediately.

Here is the interview I had with Mike Winegardner and Ryan Davisson from On Again Off Again along with label rep. Stan of Yes Club Records.
